There is no responsible single “average” marketing budget for health and beauty businesses. A local salon, an aesthetic clinic and an ecommerce skincare brand have completely different customer journeys, margins and acquisition economics.
Build the budget from customer economics
- What service, treatment or product are you trying to grow?
- What is the gross or contribution margin?
- What percentage of enquiries book or buy?
- What is repeat-purchase or repeat-booking value?
- How much capacity is available?
Budget by bottleneck
If visibility is weak, invest in SEO or paid media. If traffic exists but bookings are weak, prioritise landing pages, trust and conversion. If bookings happen once but retention is poor, spend more on follow-up and customer experience instead of buying more traffic.
Model paid search rather than guessing
Clicks = media budget ÷ CPC
Enquiries or purchases = clicks × conversion rate
Customers = enquiries × close rate
Use your own data as quickly as possible. CPC and conversion can vary sharply by treatment, product, geography and intent.
What should the budget cover?
- SEO and service/treatment pages
- Google Ads or paid social
- Website and landing-page conversion work
- Creative and content
- CRM, email/SMS and booking follow-up
- Tracking and reporting
Measure revenue or bookings, not traffic alone
For appointment-led businesses, track booked consultations, show rate, conversion to treatment and repeat bookings. For ecommerce, track new-customer acquisition cost, contribution margin, repeat purchase and payback period.
