SEO and Google Ads both help education providers capture course demand, but they work on different timelines. The useful comparison is how each contributes to suitable applications and enrolments, not simply traffic.
Use Google Ads for speed and controlled testing
Paid search can support a priority intake, test demand for a programme or reach high-intent searches quickly. It works best when the course page already gives clear dates, fees, delivery mode, requirements and next steps.
Use SEO for recurring programme demand
SEO builds visibility around course, qualification and provider searches that recur over time. Strong evergreen programme pages can continue contributing after an individual advertising campaign ends.
Compare the same funnel outcome
For paid search, track cost per qualified enquiry, application and enrolment. For SEO, include the cost of content and technical work and assess the same downstream outcomes. CPC versus SEO fee is not a useful final comparison.
Use both when the economics support it
Google Ads can test language and demand while SEO builds durable visibility. Shared tracking lets admissions teams see which programmes and channels genuinely fill cohorts.
